The devil wears PRADA

TV를 돌리다가 케이블 채널에서 방영하는 '악마는 프라다를 입는다'의 한 장면에서 잠깐 멈춰 보게 되었다. 

그래, 앤 해서웨이가 참 예뻤던 영화. 

 

그녀가 어떻게 해도 미란다가 자신을 인정해주지 않는다고, Nigel에게 찾아와서 한탄을 하다가 한 마디를 듣는 장면. 

Nigel이 해주는 조언이 참.. 현실적이면서도 정신이 번쩍들게 하는 진심 어린 충고였다. 

자신이 사랑하는 일터에 대한 

 

처음 영화를 봤을 때 기억으로는, 

여주인공이 누군가의 도움을 받아 짜-잔하고 멋지고 패셔너블한 사람으로 변신! 하는 장면이라고 느꼈던 것 같다. 

그때는 단순히 화려하게 변신한 외관에 주목하고 봤다면, 

사실 이 장면을 기점으로 그녀는 자기가 하고 있는 일에 대한 태도와 생각을 바꾸기 시작했던 것이다. 

그랬기 때문에, 이후 그녀의 적응과 변신이 성공적이었던 것이고. 

 

개인적으로 난.. Quit.을 선택한 것 같아서 안타깝네. 

정말로 내가 사랑하는 일터를 가져본 적이 없었던 것 같기도 하고. 사랑이 빨리 끝난 던 것 같기도 하고.

왜 일까? 뭔가 또 새로운 고민에 시작이군ㅎ;;

Andy : She hates me, Nigel. And that's my problem because-

Nigel : I can get another girl to take your job in five minutes one who really wants it.

Andy : No, I don't want to quit. That's not fair.

          But, you know, I'm just saying that I would just like a little credit... for the fact that I'm killing myself trying.

Nigel : Andy, be serious. You are not trying.

          You are whining.

          What is it that you want me to say to you, huh?

          Do you want me to say, "Poor you. Miranda's picking on you. Poor you. Poor Andy"? 

          Hmm? Wake up, six. She's just doing her job.

          Don't you know that you are working at the place... that published some of the greatest artists of the century?

          Halston, Lagerfeld, de la Renta. 

          And what they did, what they created... was greater than art because you live your life in it.

          Well, not you, obviously, but some people. You think this is just a magazine, hmm? 

          This is not just a magazine. This is a shining beacon of hope for 

          oh, I don't know let's say a young boy growing up in Rhode Island with six brothers...

          pretending to go to soccer practice when he was really going to sewing class...

          and reading Runway under the covers at night with a flashlight.

          You have no idea how many legend shave walked these halls. And what's worse, you don't care.

          Because this place, where so many people would die to work... you only deign to work. 

          And you want to know why she doesn't kiss you on the forehead... 

          and give you a gold star on your homework at the end of the day.

          Wake up, sweetheart.

Andy : Okay. So I'm screwing it up. 

          Mmm. I don't want to. I just wish that I knew what I could do to-

          Nigel? 

Nigel : Hmm?

Andy : Nigel, Nigel.

Nigel : No.

넌 여기서 얼마나 많은 전설적인 디자이너들이 이 홀을 수없이 지나쳐갔는지에 대해 모르고 있어. 심지어 더 최악인 건 관심도 없다는 거야!

누군가에게 목숨 걸고 일하는 이 곳이 너한테는 단순히 일을 하기 위한 곳이니까! 

그러면서 미란다가 왜 보듬어 주지 않는지 모르겠다고.. 왜 네가 한 일들에 대해서 일일이 잘했다고 칭찬을 안 해주는지 모르겠다고?
